National ICT R&D Fund was established with a vision to transform Pakistan’s economy into a knowledge based economy by promoting efficient, sustainable and effective ICT initiatives through synergic development of industrial and academic resources. The Fund till-date has funded 86 Technical R&D projects worth about Rs 1.42 billion.

A good number of these projects are now reaching the commercialization stage and some are in the process of being commercialized. In lieu of the challenges being faced by our research teams and also some of the local IT companies, the Fund launched this human resource development initiative titled “Taking the Next Steps; Commercialization and Going International”. The endeavor aims to build the entrepreneurial capacity of select teams from amongst the funded technical R&D projects and also select IT companies by developing the knowledge and skills for Business plan development and sales management.

The teams are currently in the United States of America to pitch their products and/or services at Road Shows across various cities in front of venture capitalists, angels, entrepreneurs, professionals, potential customers, partners, etc. They are also to visit incubation centers and do follow-up meetings with all key stakeholders.

As part of this initiative, Global Innovation through Science & Technology (GIST) “Impact through Entrepreneurship” program brings together the Washington DC entrepreneurial and investment community to discuss exciting and future international opportunities in the tech sector and to celebrate entrepreneurship and early successes.
